Telling Your Story: Fiction & Nonfiction Personal Narratives

Author and professor Aaron Hamburger will teach an active learning workshop in which participants will explore different approaches to storytelling based on autobiographical material. This may be in the form of a memoir or fiction.

The class will explore how to choose the right story to tell and what to consider in crafting it. Attendees will review published works and work individually on writing exercises, trying new strategies and techniques. The session will also incorporate participant insights, learning, and questions in a discussion format.

Some techniques addressed in the class may include world-building, character creation and development, framing the story, and research. This workshop is appropriate for writers of all abilities.

Aaron Hamburger is the author of four books. His story collection The View from Stalin's Head won the Rome Prize in Literature. He has also written four novels. He teaches writing at George Washington University and the Stonecoast MFA program.
