On Thursday, April 9, 2026, at 1 p.m. in the Boca Grande Community Center's auditorium, the Johann Fust Library Foundation presents a screening of the documentary All That Is Sacred. Later that same afternoon, at 4 p.m., in the library's loggia, Tom McGuane will be in conversation with Andy Mill. This two-part event, which caps the 2025-26 season, is not to be missed!
In the early 1970s in Key West, a group of writers, artists, musicians, and fishermen came together and forged lifelong bonds. The talented group included Tom McGuane, Jimmy Buffett, Jim Harrison, Richard Brautigan, Guy de la Valdene, and Russell Chatham. Their stories would become the stuff of legends.
A documentary presented by Yeti, titled All That Is Sacred, takes us into the unique story of these people in that place and time, but it is more than a retrospective.
The film, directed by Scott Ballew, features interviews with Tom McGuane, Jimmy Buffett, Laurie McGuane, Carl Hiassen, and Guy de la Valdene. This is a story about literature and a story of friendship, and all the while, there was tarpon fishing. In 1974, Guy de la Valdene produced a documentary titled Tarpon . His brother-in-law and cinematographer Christian Odasso captured what some have called the best tarpon fishing footage of all time. The footage has been restored and is featured in All That Is Sacred.
A ndy Mill was an elite alpine downhill skier—the best American skier in that event from 1974 to 1981. He competed in two Olympics and four World Championships and was inducted into the Colorado Ski Hall of Fame. He then enjoyed a 20-year career in broadcasting.
Andy is also a passionate fly-fisherman. His many fishing championships include five Gold Cups, six Golden Flies, and a Don Hawley. He is the first of only three anglers ever to win a bonefish, tarpon, and permit tournament on fly. In September of 2025, he was inducted into the International Game Fishing Hall of Fame.
In addition to these many achievements, Andy is the author of an award-winning book, A Passion for Tarpon .
Since 2020, he and his son, Nicky have produced the popular Mill House Podcast , where they have conducted over 141 interviews of the icons of sport fishing.
Tom McGuane is considered one of the greatest writers of our time. His impressive body of work includes ten novels, four short story collections, and three nonfiction works. He also wrote four screenplays —Rancho Deluxe , The Missouri Breaks , Tom Horn , and 92 in the Shade —which he also directed.
His fiction has been featured in The New Yorker many times. In October 2025, he released his fifth collection of short stories, A Wooded Shore. In Tom’s fiction, complex characters play out compelling human dramas against backdrops of vivid American landscapes.
His many honors include a Wallace Stegner Fellowship, election to the prestigious Academy of Arts and Letters, and a National Book Award nomination. In addition to his many literary accolades, he was also elected to the National Cutting Horse Association Hall of Fame and the Fly Fishing Hall of Fame.
